Bob West, the founder of the Treborwolf Drahthaar Kennels, has worked with hunting dogs since he was the age of six. Bob has owned and trained many dog breeds over the last 50 years. In 1964, he discovered the German Wirehaired Pointer ( Drahthaar ) and chose to introduce this breed to other hunters. This phenomenal Drahthaar breed was established in Germany as a result of crossing several other known versatile hunting dog breeds. The primary breeds began with Griffon, Pudelpointer, German Shorthaired Pointer and the Stichelhaar lineages. Since the 1960's, Bob has selectively bred his strain of Drahthaar or German Wirehaired Pointer strain by placing the most emphasis on personality, pointing ability and retrieving ability. He de-emphasized the genetic traits for Blood tracking and Sharpness (the instinct to kill). He wanted his Strain to be known for a loving personality like that of a Poodle or a Collie; the bold retrieving ability of a Chesapeake Bay Retriever; and the intense pointing ability of the English Pointer. Bob West only breeds one breed of dog and that is the Drahthaar or German Wirehaired Pointer. Bob only breeds a litter or two a year and most of the pups are spoken for before they are born. His dogs are all AKC registered and he is always glad to assist others who may want to learn to become a breeder. Bob West is a true dog lover and he enjoys the company of any dog. Over the many years, he has assisted hundreds of novices, in the training and care of their dogs. A free Training Manual comes with every dog.
